I had nowhere else to turn when he took me in. He doesn’t hurt, take advantage of, or ignore me. He sees me, hears me, and keeps an ear out for me. I can feel his gaze on me across the breakfast table, and when I hear him pull into the driveway after work, my heart skips a beat.
